As a family doctor living and working through many a cold, dry Alberta winter, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry alumna Stephanie Liu, ’13 MD, has seen a lot of clinically dry skin on even her youngest patients. Sometimes the eczema is so severe she has had no choice but to treat it with steroids — an effective treatment, she says, but not without its potential for side-effects that worry some of her patients. 

New parents might be nervous about all that comes along with having a newborn. One of those anxieties might be surrounding baby’s first bath or how often to bathe a newborn.

In light of the overabundance of mom blogs with questionable content, one University of Alberta family physician decided to offer women an alternative and start up her own mom blog called Life of Dr. Mom.

Parents can’t help but to have endless health questions about their children’s rashes and runny noses, but a personal doctor isn’t always available to respond.

As a doctor, I encourage mothers to breastfeed. Breastfeeding is affordable, helps with bonding and has health benefits for both the infant and mother.
